AIDS Concern “Care Full Coffee Truck”

Inviting public to fight stigma for HV/AIDS

Yesterday (29 Nov), AIDS Concern launched the Care Full Coffee Truckcampaign in Causeway Bay to echo their theme for this year’s World AIDS Day 2014 ---“Be Care Full, Fight Stigma”. Supported by Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited and Holly Brown Company Limited, AIDS Concern is inviting members of the public to drop their stigma by taking a cup of free coffee made by people living with HIV.

The campaign attracted a lot of people, who stopped by and enjoyed the free coffee yesterday afternoon. The Chief Executive of AIDS Concern, Andrew Chidgey, said that they were delighted that so many people joined in to show their support and combat discrimination.

Meanwhile, members of the public were encouraged to support this meaningful event by taking photographs with the “Care Full Coffee Cup” and upload them to Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag #aidsconcern. For every photo posted, Suzuran Bed (HK) Limited will donate HKD1 to AIDS Concern for promoting HIV/AIDS prevention and education in Hong Kong.

In addition to inviting the public to enjoy free coffee, students from the Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, who are also members of the Faculty drama club MEDEGG’s Production, joined the campaign to spread the anti-stigma message through square plays near the coffee truck. The Care Full Coffee Truck is distributing free coffee in Prince Edward and Tsim Sha Tsui today; and in Quarry Bay and Central on 1 Dec.

Following the AIDS Concern Coffee Truck tour, there will be the annual AIDS Concern Testing Week (8 – 14 Dec) when AIDS Concern will increase the capacity of the testing service by opening it to the public to raise the public awareness about HIV/AIDS. The one-stop testing services at AIDS Concern are free, anonymous and confidential and all the tests go with pre- & post- test counselling, referral and support services.

On 13 Dec, AIDS Concern will co-organise with the Hong Kong AIDS Foundation in a public education campaign named Modern Sex Education(「現代性教育」) at  the Piazza of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre to promote the importance of Comprehensive Sexuality Education for young people. Red Ribbon Centre, The Department of Health and The Boys' and Girls' Clubs Association of Hong Kong are invited to set up booths to promote safer sex messages, HIV/AIDS education and parent support services.
