Congratulations!
Hong Kong is to host the 2022 Gay Games after it successfully beat bids from the cities Washington, USA and the Mexican city of Guadalajara. Originally there were bids from 17 cities in total.
The Federation of Gay Games revealed the winner at a press conference in Paris on Monday night. It will be the first time the sports and cultural event will be held in Asia.
Andrew Chidgey, Chief Executive of AIDS Concern said, ‘Wow – what exciting positive news to wake up to! Hong Kong has beaten 16 other cities from across the world to be named host for the 2022 Gay Games in Hong Kong.
Huge congratulations to the many people from Hong Kong and across Asia who have been involved in convincing the Federation of Gay Games that Hong Kong is the best place to hold this landmark event.
It’s called the Gay Games because of the event’s history but will be open to everyone to take part. This is a tremendous opportunity to build the health of people across Asia and to showcase Hong Kong as a world city.
AIDS Concern looks forward to working as part of the Gay Games Team to build a healthy inclusive future for LGBT people in Hong Kong and across Asia.’
