If one had high risk sexual behavior, or think that infected blood has got into his/ her body, they should speak with a healthcare professional immediately for testing. Please click here for Online Risk Assessment.
The window period is the time a human body needs to produce antigens and antibodies in order to show a positive result on the test. The window period is different depending upon the type of HIV test and varies from person to person.
Our organisation uses AlereTM HIV Combo for HIV screening test. This test strip has the opportunity to detect some cases of new HIV infection through detection of p24 antigen within 15 to 28 days after infection. And there is a window period of 90 days for HIV antibodies. For more information, please refer to:http://www.alere.com/en/home/product-details/alere-hiv-combo.html
We suggest getting tested after three months of unprotected sex, which means after the window period.
Testing process at AIDS Concern is as below:
1. Make a reservation and visit the testing center on time
2. Staff will verify your identity and ask for your reservation number
3. Survey will be done in a separate room and our VCT worker will perform a test with you for around 45 minutes
This includes pre-test counseling for understanding the risk of infection and collection of blood sample
Referral will be given to people who test positive for HIV.
There is no need to provide your name and ID card number for reserving the test. Conversations during the test and results are confidential, and we make sure our VCT workers keep information confidential as well.
