Emanate:Life Stories of People Living with HIV, Caregivers and Healthcare Professionals
AIDS Concern is delighted to present Emanate, an exhibition in collaboration with Wyndham Social. This exhibition employs fragrance as a medium to explore the intertwining of care, memory and lived experiences, featuring 15 bespoke room fragrances and diffusion stone installations created by people living with HIV (PLHIV) and their companions, in partnership with local fragrance artist duo Slash & Parallel. These works narrate the life stories of beneficiaries supported by AIDS Concern, as well as caregivers and healthcare professionals – reminding us that the richness of life cannot be reduced to a diagnosis. Together, they celebrate the warmth of care spreading through society like fragrance, symbolizing the triumph of compassion over stigma and fear.
Fifteen participating PLHIV and their companions have collaborated with Slash & Parallel to share their unique stories through artworks shaped by a layered approach to scent — top notes, heart notes and base notes. These creations allow the spirit and resilience of PLHIV to emanate into communities, challenging perceptions, igniting compassion and catalyzing transformations that extend beyond the exhibition frame.
Complementing these works are bespoke contributions from Hong Kong poet Lut Ming, internationally renowned local artist Trevor Yeung and Hong Kong-born Indian Filipino artist Sharu Binnong Sikdar. Together, they compose a multisensory argument: when care circulates, stigma fades.
