Throughout the years, AIDS Concern has been conducting prevention work targeting different high risk communities, including men who have sex with men (MSM), heterosexual men with multiple sex partners, and youth at risk for HIV infection. Through different intervention methods and education programs, we aim to make them understand the importance of practicing safer sex and to carry out early testing in order to understand their own physical status.

Physical Outreach
The team launches outreach activities in hot spot such clubs, gay bars and gay saunas to promote sexual health education and prevention of HIV/ AIDS, STIs and contraception (heterosexual youth). They also discuss a wide range of topics with youngsters such as relationships and love. They encourage the youth to evaluate on sexual health from a variety of perspectives. The team also collaborates with other outreach staff, working for various other organizations in order to deliver our outreach work in area such as Tin Shui Wai, Tuen Mum, Tsuen Wan and Tsing Yi.

Social Media Outreach
The team communicates with the youth community via the internet on sexual health education, by means of websites, discussion forums, social networking and social dating apps which are popular among youngsters. They discuss, for instance, safer sex, evaluation of relationships and sexual values with the youth in an attempt to promote awareness for sexual health.

Physical Outreach in Gay Hotspots
Our outreach team pays regular visits to gay saunas, bars and gay parties where MSM gathers to promote safer sex and distribute condoms. If necessary, we will transfer them to have HIV antibody testing. By the outreach service, we can have in-depth discussion and further strength the relationship with the community. Through the social relationship, we believe we can stress the importance of preventing AIDS and other Sexually transmitted diseases further.
In our outreach services, we have introduced the concept of game booths to encourage participants to play so that we can attract the community’s attention and interest while broadcasting sex health messages. During major festivals, we will collaborate with main venues to cohost themed activities too.

Physical Outreach in Cross-border Gay Hotspots
Launched in 2008, our preventive measures for cross-border male homexual target at the Pearl Delta with a focus in Shenzhen. With a closer connection between China and Hong Kong (Guangdong province and Shenzhen), sexual consumption increases. We aim at increase male homosexuals' awareness of safe sex when engaging in sexual consumption in China, with an attempting of carrying out earlier cross-border prevention and bringing Hong Kong experience to the Maindland.

Our current work focus on cross-border MSM community in Hong Kong and the sex partners in China, increasing the knowledge in HIV/ STDs and the usage of condoms. We also set up an enviroment to support safe sex in the websites that are popular in the MSN community.

Our major target are gay people who cross the Hong Kong- Shenzhen broder. The secondary target is their male sex partners in the Mainland of China. Meanwhile we will carry out outreach services in gay bars, saunas, clubs in Shenzhen, distributing condoms, referring AIDS and STD testing, setting up booth games, and organizing thematic activities.

At the same time, we will collaborate with the MSM supporting groups of Guangdong province and Shenzhen Disease Control and Prevention for the provision of training.

Internet Outreach
Besides physical outreach, the Internet becomes one of our outreach platforms due to its rapid development and the activeness of MSM online. We hope to promote correct sexual knowledge, safe sex, STD testing and latest information from AIDS Concern though internet outreach. It also serves as a means for PLHIVs to express their feelings and for us to understand the community.
The diversity of the Internet approach allows us to conduct outreach to various community groups. A MSM targeted website www.men2mentesting.com was set up to introduce our work as well as HIV AIDS/STD knowledge. We also spread safe sex messages to other MSM websites such as logging into chat rooms, answering HIV related questions etc.

For the convenience of community members, we set up instant messengers (Skype: aidsconcern_msm@hotmail.com; Line: ac.m2m) and social networking platforms (Facebook: www.facebook.com/ac.m2m) to contact with the MSM Team.

Outreach in Social Networks
We launched our online outreach in 2006, in which our Love Angels logged into various websites with adult content, so as to contact with different men to address problems related to AIDS and STIs. We also post posters on a number of discussion forums to inform men about more information about sex and its importance

With the belief that it's crucial to promote sexual health information to male community through mass media campaigns, therefore we endeavor to contact different media, regularly publish sexual health and testing information in adult magazines. We also hold press conferences and publish press release in order to arouse public attention to men's sexual health. With the advances in communicating technology and new media, the team has created mobile applications and website etc. to reach more targets, so that more men can receive information on safe sex and sexual health, conduct self-risk assessment, and online booking for testing services.

Through the peer training programmes, our well-trained peer educators are able to spread effectively information regarding AIDS and other STIs among their friends. Peer educators can become peer counselors of their social networks. Counselors themselves will come up with more insights regarding sex and relationship.

RAPID TEST

Our voluntary counselling and testing (VCT) service is a crucial intervention point in AIDS Concern's HIV prevention work. Having considered HIV prevention strategies of other places and the behavioral pattern of different communities, AIDS Concern proactively promotes early testing and provides the following one-stop testing services for people in need:

1. HIV and syphilis rapid tests
- A finger prick test to get a blood sample
- Result known in 20 minutes
- For HIV we use the p24 Combo HIV rapid test, which can detect SOME new HIV cases within 15-28 days after infection. However, as it cannot detect all new HIV infections within this period, we suggest people can also get tested 90 days after suspected infection may have happened to be sure of one’s HIV status.

2. Gonorrhoea & chlamydia test
(urine test and result known in 2 weeks)

All tests are free, anonymous and confidential. The tests also come with pre- & post-test counselling and referral.

Our voluntary counselling and testing (VCT) service is partly sponsored by Janssen.

Newly diagonsed people living with HIV need time to adjust their mood in order to adapt to the lives after infection. Difficulties faced are different from one patient to the other. Caretakers may not know how to react to the news that a person close is infected.

Our Support Services principally provides counselling, consulting, and referral services to people living with HIV/ AIDS (PLHIV) and their caregivers (spourse, family members, friends, or social workers), with an aim of reducing patients' stress, and enabling the patients to live with HIV and the caretakers to look after the patients.

Gatherings and seminars are held on a regular basis for people living with HIV and their caretakers with the goal of strengthening their mutual support and creating a supportive environment in the community.

Newly diagnosed people living with HIV support group
Adaptation groups are arranged for newly diagnosed PLHIV. The group consists of four to five members led by a peer counsellor who is a person living with HIV and staff of AIDS Concern. The group allows people living with HIV to express their feelings, to share their experience, and to understand and discuss relevant issues such as medication, family, work, love and sex, as well on other support services. Group members are free to initiate topics. Through the process, people living with HIV help each other to positively face the problems arising from the disease and to improve their quality of life.

Monthly gatherings/ Talks
The people living with HIV monthly gathering and seminars provide a comfortable environment for PLHIV to interact and support one another and to learn more about HIV-related topics such as medication and equal opportunities.

Through learning from the experience of others, PLHIV and caretakers are able to adapt to changes brought about by the disease. Mutual support among the community members enhances their ability to deal with different challenges they face. We encourage and provide trainings for PLHIV and caretakers to help other community members with their own personal experience.
