AIDS Concern Launches Impactful Events to Unite the Community for a Stigma-Free Future During the 35th Anniversary of World AIDS Day

(16th November, 2023, Hong Kong) AIDS Concern, a leading organization dedicated to HIV/AIDS awareness and support, is proud to announce a series of engaging and impactful events in commemoration of the 35th Anniversary of World AIDS Day. These events aim to foster public understanding of AIDS/HIV, promote inclusivity, and combat the social stigma associated with HIV/AIDS.

World AIDS Day, observed annually on December 1st, goes beyond celebrating the achievements of communities. It serves as a call to action, enabling and supporting communities in their leadership roles, while also providing an opportunity to show support for people living with HIV/AIDS, commemorate those who have passed away, and encourage collective action to combat the epidemic.

The 35th anniversary of World AIDS Day represents a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to eradicate the disease and promote a world free from stigma and discrimination. AIDS Concern, under the leadership of Jerome Yau, Chief Executive, emphasizes the importance of investing in evidence-based prevention and treatment programs and prioritizing the well-being of individuals affected by HIV.

“With the commemoration of the 35th anniversary of World AIDS Day, let us renew and strengthen our response to HIV by investing in evidence-based prevention and treatment programs and putting people first,” said Jerome Yau.

Acknowledging the prevalence of HIV stigma and discrimination in Hong Kong society, Yau added, “We can change the situation by making comprehensive, science-based sexuality education mandatory in our schools. This is about equipping our youth with age-appropriate, progressive, and non-religious sexuality knowledge so that they can grow up healthy and make responsible decisions for themselves.”

AIDS Concern invites everyone to join in commemorating the 35th anniversary of World AIDS Day and actively participate in the exciting activities planned. By challenging stigma, promoting awareness, and supporting those affected by HIV/AIDS, together, we can create a brighter future for the community.

Anti-Stigma Coffee Truck Campaign: Brewing a Stigma-Free Society

As part of the commemorative events, AIDS Concern presents the Anti-Stigma Coffee Truck Campaign, an initiative aimed at shifting public perception and attitudes towards people living with HIV (PLHIV). The campaign seeks to create a more inclusive society by fostering love, compassion, and support for individuals and communities affected by HIV/AIDS.

Under the tagline “Full Cup of Love,” this free-giving coffee event for World AIDS Day goes beyond providing a warm cup of coffee. It symbolizes an act of love and support. The campaign will distribute coffee at various locations in Hong Kong from December 1st to December 3rd, 2023, including Prince of Wales Hospital, Mong Kok, Tsim Sha Tsui, Central, and Yuen Long. Concurrently, surveys will be conducted to gauge public perception of HIV/AIDS, and sexual health messages will be delivered to the general public.
